A recruiter career is a job where the main duty and responsibility is to accept applications, interview, evaluate, give capability tests, and decide whether an applicant is a good fit for the available positions in the company or agency. They are the ones communicating directly with potential employees for permanent or temporary hiring.

Recruiters may meet with job seekers over the phone or directly contact them about a job opening and answer any questions that may come up. The recruiter’s goal is for the applicant to see the company in a favorable light and get them to apply for a job that is right for them.

Another recruiter’s responsibility is the screening of jobseekers. They stay involved by going over applicants’ resumes, selecting and contacting them for interview and recommending a work area they would be comfortable in. In some cases the recruiter conducts background checks of their applicants’ to make sure they are able to work in a certain field.

There are classifications of recruiting jobs. They are different according to whom they work for or, who they recruit. They are known as either a corporate recruiter, who directly work for the employer, or a third-party recruiter, who is either “retained” or “contingency” recruiters, depending on the payment scheme between the recruitment firm and the company. Contingency recruiters must work fast because there can be several firms competing for a given position and only the firm whose candidate is chosen gets paid. Retained recruiters can conduct interviews more thoroughly because they are not constrained by time and are paid whether their candidate is hired or not.

Another method of classifying recruiters is by the type of workers that are recruited. Entry-level recruiters bring in inexperienced jobseekers, directly from universities and colleges. Technical recruiters screen people in fields requiring technical expertise such as engineering. Executive recruiters screen applicants for leadership positions who ideally must have considerable knowledge and abilities. In most cases these types of recruiting jobs intertwine with another and pretty much the same thing.

Human resource managers are a higher level of recruiting careers and specialize in many areas. They meet with company staff involved in the hiring process to know where the areas of working growth will be expected as well as areas of attrition due to promotion, retirement, transfer, other changes and overall labor market conditions. HRMs analyze the information they collect and estimate long and short term hiring needs. HRMs provide guidance as to the type of workers to hire by revising job descriptions and develop the employers recruiting strategy.

In preparing for a recruiting job, applicants must keep in mind that most employers are highly educated people that work hard to get in that job position. Human resource management and business studies are the main qualifying courses. Some employers prefer their recruiters to have the same background or course as the applicants they plan to hire. Experience in customer service, sales, marketing, and human resource is a good background for recruiters.

The employment outlook for recruiter careers or hiring managers is good. Everyday more establishments are looking for help in their recruitment process thru human resource personnel or dedicated recruiters. There are a lot of opportunities for recruiter careers applicants. Required is mostly a degree in human resource, management or equivalent course to qualify for top level positions. Work experience is also considered in the hiring of recruitment personnel.

According to the U.S. National Salary Data entry level recruiter careers earn between $34,714.00 and $58,109.00 annually. Human Resource Managers earn between $45,132.00 and $74,526.00 plus social security and other benefits. Years of experience and trainings attended are important considerations to advancement in this particular field of work.
